1. (Proper Noun-Masculine) Popularly known as Hiru da and Hiru Bhatta among the connoisseurs of him and his poetry, Hiren Bhattacharyya is a poet by passion and profession ( ‘I am a poet…I have no other entity,/with words is my inseparable entity) and is hailed as the poet of youth and hope. A poet of rare sensitivity, he is thoroughly rooted in his locale and whose concerns range from accustomed feelings to highly intractable moods, his poetry shows an unique blend of passion and fine lyricism. Son of Tirthanath Bhattacharyya and Snehalata Devi, Hiren Bhattacharyya was born in 1932 at Jorhat, Assam. Some of his collections of poems are Mor Desh Mor Premar Kabita (1972) Bibhinna Dinar Kabita (1974), Sugandhi Pakhila (1981), Bhalpowar Dikchou Batere (2000) amongst others. He is a recipient of several national and international awards.
